I've been reading through the archives and haven't been able to find a precise answer to this question. Apologies in advance if this is repetitive.
I'm just curious what the "normal" compressor cycle should be. I understand this to be relative given ambient temperatures among other factors, but I notice that here in NYC during this most recent heat wave my compressor has not been cycling at all, but rather running continuously (both at idle and while driving). I've also noticed that the electric cooling fan has been on a lot more, sometimes also continuously, suggesting higher pressures. Temperatures this past week have been way over 80, and daytime well into the 90s and even cracking 100 a couple days. This week has been the first time I've used the A/C regularly this year, though I recall previous use of the A/C would result in a compressor cycle (clutch engaging) though I can't remember how often but definitely not a short cycle. System hasn't been recharged in a couple years and I see no evidence of leaks anywhere, so I believe it's held the most recent charge well. It's not been converted from R12, and the air still blows about as cold as it always has which is actually pretty good. It's been too hot to run the A/C at lower ambient temperatures (70's) to see if that alone makes a difference.
I'm just concerned that running the compressor continuously like this will cause problems. Should I be concerned?
