Overdrive Solenoid Wire 200 1992

Guys,

I fixed my overdrive solenoid wire last night. It took me 3 hours because I'm really slow and honestly, it is a pain of a job. There just isn't much room around the transmission and driveshaft to work on it.

When my overdrive quit working I was able to quickly diagnose the broken wire that leads from the gear selector, down to the passenger side of the transmission. The wire insulation was cracked and missing and it finally broke.

I was able to pull one end up through the gear selector box. Unfortunately I wasn't able to fish the new wire back down through the rubber grommet. So I ended up drilling my own hole in the transmission tunnel to fish my new wire down under. I used one of those sponge ear plugs as a grommet to protect the new wire from the sharp metal edges of the transmission tunnel.

All that part of the job took the most time. Once the new wire was down under the car I was able to place some new male and female connections on the wire, wrap it in electrical tape, and put some wire loom over it all to protect it.

Took it on a test drive and it worked perfectly.

Much thanks to Art's cleanflametrap.dom website that had some pictures and also some posts from Art on this board with the transmission tunnel with the transmission removed.

Best wishes. If this thing breaks again, I'm going to pull out the dremmel tool and cut a groove to connect the holes just like the IPD plate does.
