acceleration 200 1992

I am having an acceleration problem with my 1992 Volvo 240. When I try to accelerate from a stop sign or a traffic light the car isn't getting any gas. It just sits there as though it is in idle (the motor isn't racing). If I press too much it will die. I have to pat it several time and finally it will catch enough gas to go for forward spitting and sputtering for the next couple hundred yard and then it takes off and runs like a champ. That is until I have to stop again.

I have taken it to three different mechanics (one is Volvo certified) for a total of of five trips. They have replace my fuel filter, adjusted the idle and replaced the kick down cable but I still have the problelm.

This all started shortly after I had the transmission replaced. Could that have anything to do with it.

Can anybody help!
