Hi all,
I am not so quick on some of my 240 diagnosing because it's been a while since I have had to do a lot. This particular 245 of mine has never failed to start in the 17 years since I rolled it off the lot.
The car is running again, but I think we have an intermittent ignition failure that I haven't really run into before. It happened once before briefly last week on another particularly hot day.
In each case, the car had been running fine, with the AC running hard, and then was turned off an sat for about 15 minutes. During that time is when a car is at it's hottest. When I got back in the car, and turned the key, no crank. The lights came on, I heard the lcim of the fuel pump relay, and the gauges are all working, but the starting moter just doesn't even hit a lick.
Admittedly, the battery is old. 10 years old. I replaced the factory one when it was 7 years old. So I know this could be a problem, but I haven't liked any of the batteries I have looked at. Hopefully I will find one soon.
This doesn't seem to be what I would have expected from a dying solenoid, but I suppose it could possible.
Or does anyone think the armature in the starter motor itself is shorting out with the heat?
The thing is, in either case, once the car started again about 10 minutes later, it started like normal, and I couldn't get it to repeat the action.
It's possible its electrical, but I can't start making checks until it misbehaves again.
Has anyone else experienced this?
