Dash vents / controls 200 1988

1988 245DL/AW-70, 280k miles

Daughter's car, I don't get near it that often. Just serviced the r134-converted a/c by adding a bottle of r134 refrigerant; it cools down well now.

But, the dash vent controls have no affect on air flow. Air seems to push equally through underdash foot/floor vents and the dash vents; no flow at all though defrost vents. I don't know if recirc is on or off; pushing the button has no effect.

I've read through the Brickboard archives. Troubleshooting and repairs include everything from the one-way vacuum valve on the intake manifold, to removing the dash to replace actuators or the button module. it could be a rotten hose/connection too, including to/from the 'ball' tank behind the middle console.

Any tips or hints where to start on a progressive troubleshooting approach?

Thanks, Robert
