Flashing Oil Idiot Light - False Reading? 200

On a recent highway drive my oil pressure idiot light started flashing on and off. At the time the factory oil pressure gauge was reading about 3.5. I pulled over and checked the dip stick. It read where it should in the middle of the textured area (I recently changed the oil).

My conclusion was I had a false idiot light reading. I finished the 300 mile drive and the dipstick still read where it should and the oil pressure gauge fluctuates from about 2 at idle to around 3+ while at speed, as it always has...

So if I have a false oil idiot light reading then how to I track down the problem source? Short? Faulty oil pressure sensor?

Thanks for any suggestions.
