Questions regarding water pump/timing belt replacment 200

Well, I'm changing my water pump (1983 245 150000) and the timing belt since I'm in that deep, and I have a few questions.

1) how do I remove the A/C belt? Haynes isn't much help. it took awhile to even get the alt to swivel. over an hour of a screwdriver and hammer to get it to swivel. I have never seen one that hard to move. the bracket and mounting bolts were really seized together on this.

2) after 27 years, the rear of the timing cover is covered in rust, and looks like it;s bent where the intermediate shaft timing marks would line up. can I just line up the other marks and just make sure the marks on the belt are where they should be on the intermediate gear? 44 teeth on a b23?

any other ideas/tips/tricks would be appreciated.

Thanks, Steve
