740 dash cover myth 700

I understand that Volvo changed the 740 dash cover to the new style and material in 1990 (?), hence you don’t see them cracking up as the old ones. How about the GLEs? I recently picked up a 1990 740 GLE in showroom condition (the seller claims so, but close) with 41K veriable miles on it. The dash cove looks exactly as the pre 1990 GLEs with no cracks at all. My question is: is it any different than the ones in an older GLE? If so, I assume that I’d better cover it before it starts cracking up al over. Thanks for your attention. Erwin
