That is correct.

Didn't Volvo make a 3.49 ration [sic] differential?

Volvo didn't make differentials at all. I'm not sure if there is a practical ring/pinion combination that results in a ratio of 3.49:1. Anyway, that's not one you'll find in a 240 rear axle.

The most common are 3.91:1, 3.73:1, 3.54:1 & 3.31:1. I believe they also used 4.10:1 and a 4:30:1 early on.
