got an 83 240 wagon with a sudden no crank, no start...
all connections in the engine compartment seem to be tight and clean:
-the 3 grounds on the intake manifold and fuel rail.
-the 2 main batt grounds to the chassis.
-others?
other things i've tried:
-jumping it, in case it was just a dead batt, no luck
-checked fuses on driver side kick-panel (my 88 has another relay next to the fuel pump relay on the passenger side, would this be a candidate? does the 83 have it?)
-this is assuming the starter and solenoid are fine, i'd like to try the quick, cheap and easy first. it has not had any starting problems before.
i get power to everything until i turn the key to position II. then everything shuts off and sometimes turns back on, but does so gradually, the key reminder starts slow and increases pitch (sounds like a pissed off cat) until it reaches full power and dings like normal, but when turned to "RUN" everything shuts off again (as it should) but with no "click" from the starter. this makes me think its either the ign switch or a short in one of its wires. i did replace the ign lock barrel, but checked that everything was put back in place ( i even used my phone to take pics to make sure connections were correct) just thought i'd post this to get a head start in case going through the process of tearing things down like i did for the ign barrel doesn't work. thanks for any help!
