Is it time to give up? 200 1989

OK, here's the situation.

It's a 1989 240 DL, 278K.

Just had the AC redone.

Two days later, the joint pipe from the first to the second muffler rusts through. The hanger fails, and the assembly slams and twists, breaking the header pipe. It may have also started an oil leak if enough weight and pressure was on the back of the motor.

OK, so I know it's going to cost a thou to fix from the header through the converter through to the muffler if I take it to a national chain. I don't know if there's a choice in the matter.

Should I give up on this car, knowing there's at least another 100K in it?
