window motor/regulator noise 900

Hi All -

Got window questions as this is a brick working weekend with the wife away.

1. driver side power window no longer operates properly. Was VERY slow past halfway going down, if it would open that far at all. Up was ok. You could see it pushing out the door panel a little from the inside as it slowly went down. Now it goes down ok all the way, fast like normal, but when going up it wont do it on its own, it makes an unpleasant rapid "gunk-gunk-gunk-gunk" noise which stops if you lift the window with your hand. Think cracked socket on a ratchet as it slips over each point of a bolt for the sound.

Regulator, motor or both? I have a parts car (my neighbors love me) and got into the door but am a little baffled as there doesn't seem to be a way to get at the guts easily. Anyone who might be able to shed some light on this would be greatly appreciated.
