940 heater valve 900 1994

I am sooooo embarrassed.

I am replacing a head gasket and in so doing, found the heater shut-off valve I had bypassed a while ago when it broke. I had a new one but when putting it back on I noticed it is directional. For the life of me, I cannot remember which end is which.

Is this reasoning correct?
1 - The valve goes in the hose from the head to the heater core?
2 - The coolant flow goes from the head to the heater core as well?
3 - The arrow on the valve should point from the head to the heater core?

Or am I backwards?

The pic in the Haynes manual doesn't help.
