A/C compressor 700 1992

So it sounds as though the clutch slipping problem could either be caused by diminished electrical power, or as you suspect, something wrong with the clutch, the compressor, or excessive system pressure. The object would be to start eliminating the possibilities.

A pressure check on the high pressure side of the system should tell you if there is an over-pressure issue.

Running a decent (large enough) gauge jumper wire directly from the battery to the compressor and manually cycling it on and off (maybe more "ON" than "OFF") would be an interesting test to see if you can replicate the problem - if not, it's possible the problem lies in the electrical current supply.

It might be that there is some marginal circuitry within the clutch such that when it gets hot it starts to fail.
