How to check the brake light switch 900 1995

Question(s) for the Brick Wizards.

How can you check the operation of the brake light switch without removing it (ie, what are the 4 wires for - 2 each brown-yellow, 1 green-yellow and 1 white-brown). Which wires to put the meter on?

I'm guessing 2 go to the bulb failure relay and 2 go to the shiftlock. Anyone have a schematic?

You see I have the no brake light problem (again). I had it 5 years ago and replaced the round red relay with a KAE one. These are a lot smaller than the originals. Anyway, I have a good signal between pins 54 and 54L/54R so I'm thinking the jumper bars and solder joints on it are all good. I just cannot get the extra voltage to the fresh 1157's to light up the second filament.

Could the relay still be bad with a good signal out to 54L/R?
