high pitched hum after engine turns over - starter?

On a several occasions over the last month I have had a high pitched hum continue when the engine turns over. I turn off the engine and restart and the noise is gone.

What is rubbing what to make the high pitched hum?

From what I'm reading in other posts I'm thinking this is the starter not disengaging after the engine fires which is due to the solenoid pin not retracting (?) .

I also see that the grease can get dirty and the solenoid can get stuck, but am not seeing that anyone takes anything apart and replaces the grease. Can the solenoid be removed without moving the transmission and serviced?
