air pump vacuum line 900 1996

Hi, i've got a volvo 960 and it seems my vacuum line has gotten a crack in it.
it's the line from the air pump to the vacuum. it's the purple line. can i replace it with any vacuum hose or does it need to be that hard plastic? i think the reason for the hard plastic is it runs on top of the engine and it gets quite hot. thinking if i ran the hose back along the firewall it should be ok.
any thoughts?
