1992 Idle problems 200

I've e had four, all with the same problem. Your check valve at the forward fuel pump could be dirty or worn. It is there to hold fuel pressure in the fuel rail at running level when you turn the car off, so it starts well after a long nap. Most likely, if you change the check valve and filter your problem goes away. Do this test. Let it get real cold. Turn the key on but not to start. Just so the fuel pump cycles up, you can hear it it is right under the drivers seat. Bzzzzzzzzppptt. When it stops - like a second - turn the key to off, then repeat like eight times. This will build fuel pressure in the rail if the check valve has failed. Then try to start it. If the car starts better after doing this, then you have found your problem. Check valve is like 8 bucks from fcp groton, filter is maybe 25? Make sure you order all new copper sealing washers (5) or it will DEFINITELY leak when you are done. Ask me how I know.

Good luck

BTW, if you do this job don't listen to the FAQ. If you try to change them out without dropping the whole filter/pump cradle from the car and doing it on a bench you will undoubtedly mangle something. Banjo bolts are a pain. Disconnect forward fuel line at fuel rail on top of the engine (use flare wrenches or you'll be sorry) and unclip it back to the cradle. Then disconnect the hose clamped rubber line at the back from the hard line to the tank, but have something to plug the tank line or it will drain the tank out on the ground. Remove whole thing from car and perform your surgery on the bench. Make sure you mark the angle of the forward line (which actually comes out the back of the cradle) vs. the cradle as it is nonadjustable once you tighten the lines down and it needs to fit around some stuff. You'll see once you crawl under there.
