shift lockout problem 900 1994

a key fell into shifter. in my effort to retrieve it i unbolted the shifter assembly to access the key. no luck. gave up and reassembled the whole business. when i went to start the car i could not get it out of park. the shift overide worked but the car would not crank. went back in to find that when i bolted down the shift assembly a wire (blue) that goes to the start inhibitor was pinched by one of the shift assembly bolts and shorted to ground. the wire is not shorted now but the car still will not crank. checked fuses, none blown. do not seem to have backup light. been to the FAQS, didn't find anything that addressed the no crank.

anybody got any ideas?
