93 vs. 96 PS Pump difference 900

Has anyone else come across this strangeness? About 4mm of strangeness that marred my Sunday afternoon bonding with my 960. I have a power steering pump from a 1993 960. I see pumps on Ebay advertised as for 1992 to 1998 such as this listing:

When I tried to put my pump on my 1996 960 I was surprised to see that the pulley did not clear the bracket for the serpentine belt tensioner. I thought that maybe the pulley was slightly larger in diameter but no. It measured exactly the same as the other pulley. What it turned out to be was that the 1993 pulley did not project as far forward by about 4mm as compared to my original pump. I was initially thinking of exchanging pulleys to see if that would get me the extra few mm's but I wrecked the old pump trying to get the pulley bolt off. If I had more patience I would have soaked the bolt overnight at least and then tried to remove. My question now is does anyone think it would be possible to remove the pulley on the '93 pump that I still have and put washers or something to get those extra few mm's to push out the pulley?

I am real curious though to know if anyone else has come across this difference and of course how close to my year, 1996, do I have to get to get a match? I am now looking for a 1996 I can get locally so that I do not take any chances. On the plus side I got alot of practice r and r'ing a ps pump.
