Speeding up my 79 Wagon 200

Hello.

I have a '79 245. It's a beauty but it's just soooo sloooow. I drive like an old lady but even for me, I need a little more power. It has the stock B21 and the nightmarishly sluggish AW55 3 speed automatic.

I'd love to put in an M46 but those aren't easy to find. Would converting to an AW71 help me out of the slow lane? That third gear on the freeway is just brutal (and loud).

This is my daily driver so I can't do anything too crazy or I'd add a turbo now. Would adding turbo to my na engine drastically reduce my mpg? Any other mods that will amp up the power a bit?
