Hey Guys,
You have read many posts like this before but I doubt the speciman was as nice. A guy offered to sell me his 88 240dl (ie manual windows and mirrors) with 57,000 miles. It's beyond nice. It really looks new to me from the outside. Always garaged and not driven in the snow and rarely in the rain. On the inside it has the one hairline crack in the dash above the cluster (sigh) that goes all the way to the front window. Other than that it is perfect. Automatic trans, blue interior, grey outside. New timing belt and tires and the AC has been converted a few years ago with new compressor and works very well. But he has done his research and will be listing it at $6300 but he may take a little less from me since I am the "local guy" and it will save him the trouble of phone calls and endless emails.... This is the low mileage one where both owners were enthusists so it has been well cared for. So you're thinking what is wrong with me?? Well don't really have room in the fleet right now and that is alot of $$$. Even with inflated ebay past auctions skewing the prices, let's face it this car may really be worth that much. I would have to sell my existing meticulously maintained 93 240 with 265k miles and abandon the 300k quest and it's worth next to nothing so I'm looking at laying out most of that asking price out of pocket. And would it really be good for a daily driver anyway? Now onto insurance which there has been alot of talk of lately. I'm not rich enough to get one of those special policies so whatever they would be offering me for a "total" would be less than I paid and the first teenager that comes along and sideswipes me - it will be all my cash to fix, ie, very vulnerable from an insurance standpoint. Any Opinions?
