Really customizing my bricktank 200 1990

i looked into it myself a while ago. moving the radio down is easy enough (i assume you have an aftermarket unit), but installing the GPS might take some hacksaw. the garmin i have (200 series) is slightly taller than the radio slot, so i'd need to permanently modify the dash somewhat. it might also involve modifying the center vent to make way. moreover, you'll want to somehow insulate the GPS from the vent hot air. the LCD does NOT take that kind of heat very well.

on top of that to make the GPS easily visible, it should tilt toward the driver's side.

further more, think about how you power the GPS. the power cord to garmin GPS is not a regular mini USB cable. there is a resister from pin 5 to pin 4 that regular USB cables do not have. if you use a regular cable, the GPS will go into PC mode upon power up and it will not navigate (unless you unplug the power, wait for it to start loading map, then plug in again. need to do this every time you start the car).

my conclusion is that the easiest way to go is to fashion a GPS pedestal bolted onto the dash or coin tray, so that the GPS is mounted where the laptop is on a cop car--bet you've seen one, haven't you.
