1987 240 wagon sputters and loses power. 200

Hi all,
I need help. I have a 1987 240 wagon and she's great though I am starting to have some age issues. Top of my list is this crazy sputtering that happens occasionally. The car will be running fine and then it will begin to sputter and lose power if you accelerate. If you floor it, it will just about choke itself out but if you easy up on the gas it will run ok but you won't have much power. If you pull over, turn off the car and start it right back up, 99% of the time it will be fine. Last week on a 4.5 hour drive it happened six or seven times. Any suggestions? I love this car but it's making me crazy.
Thanks.
