fuel pumps and my ignorance 200 1989

Depending on the pump type you have, you have 2 pumps, or one pump.
In either case, there is a pump in the gas tank. If you have Regina/Rex, and you replaced the pump, you're done with pump replacements.

If you replaced an external pump, then there is an internal pump too.

If you flip through the FAQ section on fuel pumps, you'll get more info, and see a procedure on how to test the in-tank pump's functionality. It's a good idea for maintenance, and took me about 2 hours total to get it out, replaced, and back in. Getting it back in wasn't as hard as everyone said, but wasn't that easy either.
The In-tank pump can be had for around $35 from what I remember. Add to that a $2 filter sock, and a similarly priced pick-up tube. If your in-tank pump is working (making noise with the main fuel pump fuse disconnected), you should just replace the sock and call it good. Fuel pumps are pretty hearty.
