No Start--Thinking ignition.. 200 1988

This has been a great car and in 6 years this is the first time it has let me down.
I went to start it this morning and it just wouldn't go, would crank but not start-
I checked fuses and all the grounds and all seem clean and OK-
The battery has been weak lately so I went ahead and replaced but still no luck-
The fuel relay clicks- which I think indicates it is working?
After continuing to try to start the ignition all the sudden stopped working and turning the key caused nothing to happen. Wondering if the ignition could have been the problem all along, obviously it is a problem now but could something in the switch cause it to not start like a position sensor or something? Any help really appreciated!
I probably should mention it has a manual transmission.
