Windshield's Out - How to Cleanup the Sill? 140-160

Hi - Trying to sort through leaks on the 140, some of which are definitely coming from the windshield.

I ran a utility knife blade all along the inside, and the old windshield came out pretty easily. From the years of leaking, etc, there is a lot of corrosion (some surface, some worse). I want to go down to bare metal with a wire wheel on the angle grinder, but I have to get up all the old gooey (well, mostly - Some is dry and cracked hence the leaking) butyl or whatever that black crap is.

Any tips? I tried some mineral oil, but that just seems to push it around. I have a guy coming on Tuesday with a new windshield and rubber seal (late model 240 style), and I'd like to have it sorted by then.

Thanks!
