AMP light on at higher revs 200 1978

So in the long quest to get my daughter's (aka $200 craigslist find) 1978 Volvo back on the road, the car is now running reasonably well, but when revved or driven above idle, the amp light comes on. At idle, battery shows just above 12 volts. When the car is revved, it goes up to about 13.5 volts. This seems normal to me-- why would the amp light come on? Battery is charging and starting the car with no problems.
