radio wiring 200 1983

i am having some trouble installing an aftermarket stereo that i used to use with my 850. i used to have an 87 240 that required a new wiring harness to plug into the male ends of the wiring harness in the car. however, my 83 does not have this-there are just some wires there. this is for a radio mounted in the bottom portion of the dash. i blew out a few fuses in the stereo trying to install it last night and am not sure why. here is what i'm working with:
BLACK-ground
GREEN-reads around 5 on the voltmeter when car is off-i assume this is my memory
GREY/GREY WITH YELLOW STRIPE-LF speaker
WHITE/WHITE WITH YELLOW STRIPE-RF speaker
i took off the side panel to get a better look at the wiring down there. there are two unmarked, unused black wires under there. one is quite thick. that is the one i was using for my 12v which blew a number of fuses. the other is a just regular sized that i haven't tried yet. any ideas?
