Gas tank size?? - book says 15.8 gal, but I'm in the red at 10 200 1992

Been driving Vickie for a little while now, and I've been filling up every time I get near the red - which takes around 10 gals.

Was reading the Owner's manual this weekend (to figure out something else) and it says that Vickie should hold 15.8 gals.

Is it really 15.8 gals on a 1992 240 sedan?? - if so is it "normal" to show in the red when you still have 1/3 of a tank??? (not that it's terrible idea when you have a teenage daughter!!!).

Can't tell for certain if PO changed the tank, but I doubt it seriously. Vickie is a third owner with only 163K, but I have no maintenance records from PO. (could there be smaller replacement tanks?)

Thanks for the info
Charles
