Noise from AC compressor even when off 900

My '94 940T has been making a scraping/squeaking noise from the AC compressor even when the clutch is off. Happens more when cold, goes away when car warms up; sometimes goes away or changes when AC is engaged. It's getting worse. I changed the belt-same symptom. It must be the clutch I suppose-never had to work on this. Is it worth just changing the AC clutch? Car has 247K miles on it. I don't want to spend much now-I'm thinking of getting something newer-'06 BMW 325 maybe. I know, I know!
