NOISY car. Replacing Tailshaft bushing, trans/motor mounts, what else? 700 1990

Hi Folks,

I've got a 90 740 N/A wagon. I'm trying to get the car to run as well as others I've driven, but the thing is just terribly noisy.

I'll be replacing the motor and tranny mounts, the tailshaft bushing, and the harmonic balance soon.

My suspicion though is that my noise is coming from the engine, as the noise increases with engine speed, not wheel speed, while coasting in neutral or in park.

Is there a bearing at the rear of the engine or the front of the transmission? I know there are seals there, but I can't figure out where so much engine-speed dependent drumming and vibration could be coming from.

I really appreciate any help.

Best,
RRG
