episode of lifter tapping...BAD!! 120-130

Hi all!! I took my 65 122 on its longest drive since I've had it. It really did very well overall, about 250 mile round trip. It did have a couple "episodes yesterday on the trip home, both times I was in the process of gaining speed and shifting after slowing down. It sounded like a very BAD lifter tapping very loud I was thinking oh this it ,its throwing a rod or something and we're 85 miles from home. After about 4 or 5 minutes though it seemed to start clearing up and getting quieter. I was on edge the rest of the trip but she got us home. When I got her home back in the barn, I popped the hood and gave her a good listen, sounds better than ever, just purrin like a kitten. Is there something I might have did wrong or is this a sign of valve adjustments or future rebuild of some sort that may be required. Thank you!!!
