Post Seat Swapping tips 740/940

Hi all,
Just finished swapping some seats in 740/940 cars. Came out real good.

The initial problem was that the motorized seat in our 940 was wearing out. I initially fixed it by swapping out some of the drive gears with some junkyard parts, but that only lasted so long. The solution- Back to manual seats!

I went to the junkyard again (Pull-a-Part in Louisville) and picked up some manual seats from some 740's. The drivers side of the manual versions has height adjustment, so I got a much needed cushion from the passenger side (always better) and the rest of the seat from the drivers side.

I found that after stripping everything down a lot of things are interchangeable. The seat bottom (that supports the cushion) can be unbolted and transferred from any one seat to another. The tracks can also be swapped around, so if you get a good passenger set of tracks you can mirror their position so as to make them work in the drivers side (the locking pins that go down into the frame are staggered).
Also, pleasantly, the entire seat backs can be swapped around. The back portion of the old seat was in good shape and better than the donor, so I now have a chair with motorized back adjustment, and manual forward/back/height adjustment. There are 2 bolts per side that hold the back to the base of the chair. That's about as 'hybrid' as my car is gonna get :)

I can put up some pics if it is of use to anybody considering swapping around seat parts.

I'm amazed at how heavy the motorized seat bases are in comparison to the manual ones...

Hope this is helpful to some,
Happy Wrenching!
