rebuilding a fuel pump??? 700 1990

sounds like the salvaged fuel pump that i installed on my '90 740 turbo almost two years ago is soon going to give up the ghost - when i installed the "new" one i kept the old one cause that's what my dad taught me to do ;) now i'm wondering if it's possible to rebuild the old one so that i have a replacement ready when the inevitable happens - if you can rebuild them where can i get parts in Canada (shipping and duty from the US are killer!)?
