Power windows dead, fuse good 200 1989

The power windows in our '89 240 suddenly quit working. After searching this site under "power windows", I couldn't find an example of all the windows not functioning other than a blown fuse or corroded connection. My fuses are really clean, and my voltmeter confirms current on both sides of the power window fuse.
So I bought a new power window relay on the assumption that the relay had failed. Guess I was wrong -- the new relay did not solve the problem.
Do you think it might be a broken wire in the area of the door hinge? The switch cluster is a bit of a rat's nest of wires that I'm leery of disturbing. Time to take it to an auto electric place? Or can someone recommend a procedure for diagnosis?
