Interior windsheild trim on 1989 240 DL Sedan 200 1989

Wish I had a definitive answer but one thing is for sure,if the old sealant has spread to the trim piece you may not be able to get the trim off.As mentioned you have already snapped a piece off.You could try to run a razor blade under there to try and break free some of the bond.At the same time run a putty knife and gently pry upwards along the trim.You may want to ask the glass installer what he recommends to soften the sealant.Maybe he has some type of desolving chemical.As a long shot I would try baby oil,yes baby oil.It is known to disolve tar so heck it might work on that black stuff too.If not use it to remove the tar spots on the lower part of the car body!Good luck.
