Am finally (about 2 months) getting around to putting Brunhilde's cylinder head back on. The water pump that is in her is a genuine Volvo, and less than a year old. But it has been seeping from the weep hole ever since new. So did the genuine Volvo one that it replaced. It was about 3 years old when it got replaced. Thus I haven't got the best faith in genuine Volvo water pumps right now.
Right now, while I am putting the head back on, is the easiest time to replace the water pump. Should I take yet another chance on a genuine Volvo pump? Or, since the one that is in there is only seeping, should I just leave it in and live with it?
One thing is for sure, Ryan_R's comment, a while back, about the reputation of Bosch water pumps is accurate: I thought I'd give a Bosch pump a try, and had my wife pick one up. The casting quality is beyond atrocious. The area on the top of the pump, where the big mushroom O-ring seats for the connection to the cylinder head is completely unfinished, and has some casting flash on it that is at least 1/32 of an inch high. And it is only around part of the circle, meaning that the big O-ring will have to manage to seal a very lumpy area. There is no way I'd put this lousy pump on my Volvo.
Anyway, should I live with the seeping Volvo pump, try another new Volvo one, or try Hepu or something? I'd really like to get Brunhilde put back together soon, and ordering a new pump from Tasca would take at least a week, so I am leaning in the direction of keeping the Volvo pump that is in there.
