Car being totaled, how to deal with Insurance Co. 200

My 1990 240 DL SW (stick shift) was in fender bender recently and insurance co is totaling it and offering 1k to buy it from me. I just do not want to sell it to these low balls. What are my options? I can repair it myself. Car drives just the same except that side light is gone (which is very easy to repair) and then there is this big dent which is more of eyesore. I am planning to go ahead with repairs and ignore the Insurance firms for some time. Is it advisable to do so? I guess the onus to settle the case is on insurance firm. I am not really in a hurry to settle down the case and want to avoid it being totaled esp. at this cost.

Is there anything legaly binding me to settle this case soon except for the monetary part.

Regards,
