clutch cable rubber thingee in aluminum housing 200 1988

When replacing clutch cable, and the old cable is removed, and you're flat on yer back, close to a stroke, how in God's name do you push the plastic nut surrounded by the rubber housing back out of the aluminum neck that fastens the whole assembly to the clutch housing???

Or, do you just use the old one since it seems impossible beyond putting the whole motor in a vise and pounding it out with a ball peen hammer?
