Hello,


I am attempting to loosen my strut shaft retaining nut (24 mm). I do not have an impact wrench, nor wish to purchase one.

I have a variety of pipe wrenches and slip joint pliers. None can grip the shaft of the strut for a counterhold. Can the shaft be annealed with a torch to facilitate a grip, or do my tools just suck and I should go buy a ridgid pipe wrench?
