1992 960 looses power

My 92 960 starts fine and goes a few hundred feet and then looses power but does not cut off. It seems to just go to an idle even if you push the gas and then it will soon accelerate and do fine for the rest of the 12 miles to or from work, but
I want to find out what is wrong.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.
