replaced odometer gear and still no odometer 200 1991

I replaced the odometer gear on my brick. Taking apart the instrument cluster was not difficult. I was delighted to open it up and find that the odometer gear was missing a tooth. "That's it," I thought. Replaced the old gear with a new one and put everything back together but no movement of the odometer. I have read other posts that the missing tooth sometimes gets stuck in the gears that turn over the numbers. When I opened everything up the second time, the rollers were turning fine. Any ideas? Can I test the motor that turns the odometer gear? Thanks
