Oil Pan Rusting? 900 1993

OK, this 945 NA that I've owned for years must be taking a disliking to me. While starting a hydraulic motor mount replacement job, I noticed the minor oil drip I've had is getting bigger. Oil is all around the drain plug and bottom of oil pan, no oil elsewhere on the pan or dripping down from the block. Always figured it was the distributor, but that doesn't make sense from this location, everything else is dry

Red paint is flaking off of pan, I guess it is possible that the plug itself is not perfectly sealed at the crush washer from my last oil change. But, the pan seems a bit suspect also. Anyone ever seen these things rust out, obviously from the outside in? Seems unlikely, but you never know.

Mike
