91 230FT no start

Car ran well for the past 2500km or so, on a long trip. Symptoms during that period, however, where an ocassional less than instant start. That is, it sometimes turned over up to 4 times before catching. but then next time it caught instantly.
The current situation is that the car has been sitting for two weeks in 45F temps. When I attempted to start it yesterday, it caught after several cranks, then sputtered and died. WOuld not restart at all, in fact the starter refused to even click. I left it to this afternoon and reattempted. Car caught after a couple of cranks, sputtered and died. Long cranking got it to almost catch, but no start.
The car has 270K km on it. Has a turbo cam, chipped, new plugs, wires, dizzy and rotor, in tank fuel pump, fuel and air filters. Its in good shape.
THere is some general info on this issue in the FAQ, but i am hoping someone can help me zero in on the specific problem here, based on what I have described.
Thanks in advance
John D.
