Dressing up... paint 444-544

Hi all. I'm a little stalled out on my 444 project, dead battery, bad brakes, and no place to really dig into the real problems in the coming weeks. I need some forward momentum... I've had a hankering to take off the fenders, 1 a weekend or so, and attempt to clean them up, weld up a couple cracks and paint them. Is it reasonable to take the car in bite size pieces over a length time when it comes to prep and paint? I imagine most people would want to get it all done in one swoop. Though separate pieces to practice on and get familiar with seems advantageous, for me at least. Less commitment I guess.
