I may not be the first person to ever have called this the rope "trick", seems it was originally the rope "method". But it sure has caught on. First time I posted it this way I was scolded! I learned it in the seventies from a mechanic who was already in his 80s. Great way to change valve springs, keepers etc without pulling the head. Just seemed like a natural when I started working on OHC Volvos. Best 10 cent tool in my toolbox is a 36" piece of nylon rope.
