Steering stiff 700 1987

Hi folks,

It's been a while since I posted here. I been busy with grad school and research papers and all that stuff.

I let the 740 sit for a while as I restored a Chevy truck, and when I started driving the Volvo again, the steering is quite stiff. I can hear the pump whine a little when I turn the wheel, but that's normal... maybe a little more noise than usual. There is no one sticky spot, and the braking and handling have not changed.

I have a spare PS pump that I'm putting on to see if that's the issue. Any other thoughts? The tie rods and ends are new, but the balljoints are of unknown age and condition.

PS - I'm selling the truck if anyone's interested. I'm in Western NC and the resto isn't complete yet, but I don't have the time to finish.
