question about rewiring back hatch 200 1989

Well, I guess its about time. Our ‘89 wagons’ back hatch finally broke some wiring at the tail gate hinges which seems about par for course of 200 series wagons after 100k-200k miles or so. Did the passenger side hinge first. Sure enough, broken wires, replaced them with a good used set, in very good flexible condition. Old wiring was kinda brittle, the rear wiper had stopped working as did the hatch lock with using the door key or the inside locks, works great now. Need to do the other (drivers) side for the 2 license plate lights-(light bulbs are fine, all tested and all fuses good) BUT here’s my question -(finally)---there’s something else those wires control, I think, but just can not figure out what it is; far as I can see the only thing that drivers' side wiring controls is the license plate lights-am I missing something? By the way, all the wires broke right at the hinge joint. Thanks for any help you might be able to offer.
