Mixing tire brands & snows - ecological or dangerous? Opinions wanted 200 1991

We have several 240's in the family and have ended up with a couple of all-season tires that are only about 1/4 worn that are different brands. My son's girlfriend (for 6 yrs) does not have much money and for winter has 2 snow tires that are good for the rear, but her front snows from last year are worn out. I know she should put 2 snows on the front, and IDEALLY they be the same make and model. I could give her 2 different all-season for the front. She is a slow driver, but at best an average driver in the snow. All tires are 185/70 14, they are at least the same size. So would this make the handling too iffy? If so, do I throw away 2 tires that are only 1/4 worn? Ecologically (and monetarily) that seems like a waste.
